About Me

About Sue:

My many years working in health and my work in counselling has provided me with the opportunity to grow and learn about the needs of others. I have significant experience have worked in non-for-profit organisations and a partially funded organisation prior to working in private practice. I have significant experience working with clients who are living with anxiety, stress, and burnout.

I also have a particular interest and am experienced working with clients who have long term health problems or limited life expectancy. My most recent experience prior to private practice involved working with palliative care clients and their families.

Grief and loss can often feel confronting, and it often bring with it a myriad of emotions and emotional distress. Counselling can provide a confidential safe space to support you to work with your grief experience in a way. Grief is a unique experience and has the capacity to intersect with many other experiences. Trauma and life transitions or any life event that evokes a sense of loss may be described as grief.

I trained as a counsellor at the University of Canterbury, and I am a full member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.

Training and Experience

I have training in acceptance and commitment therapy, solution-focused therapy and motivational interviewing. All modalities are supported with a person-centred approach, which I consider the foundation of all therapeutic work.

More recently, I have worked towards a qualification in professional supervision. I primarily wish to support nurses and other professionals working in the health sector.

I can offer you a safe supportive space that values authenticity, respect and trust within the therapeutic relationship. I believe that I offer a place where growth and transformation is possible.

Most clients report feeling ‘stuck’ irrespective of their presenting problem. Some clients may only feel the need for shorter term therapy while others may require further longer-term work. I will enable you to navigate whatever thoughts, beliefs or feelings (and behaviours ) that are keeping you stuck.

I want our work together to empower you to live your best life.
